Moonlight

I admire America a lot. However, the popular saying that familiarity breeds contempt, comes to mind as with time I've come to see America as a giant with failings just as everyone else. Granted, as a movie enthusiast I form most of my opinions from movies that I watch.

Now where am I going with all this? America has a tradition of being an apologist . Sometimes rightly so, other times not so. In the early part of America’s history was the slave trade issue then it graduated to civil liberties and now “black lives matter”. The average white American feels ashamed of what was done to the black man and tries to make it up by being friendly to the African American and trying to at least have one black friend. This even shows in the movies where you have a group of four white friends and one black dude. It is like a checklist. Do I have one black friend? Check.

There was also the era in the American culture where being a homosexual was being frowned upon but now it is a whole different story. America once again is an apologist for the gay culture. This has gone to the extent of legalizing gay marriage. Now again just like the racial issue, there is a question of balance. I personally do not have anything against anybody who wants to be gay but please do not force me to like the person. Just as the gay have rights so should the heterosexual. Do not force the gay agenda down my throat. America is being a defender of the gay culture and no longer just a defender but an attacker. It is subtle. Do not attack a gay person, however if the gay person attacks you for not pitching your tent with them, you are not meant to retaliate. So once again the checklist comes up. Do I have a gay friend? Check.

About two years ago, the Oscars were criticized heavily for having no black actors or black dominated pictures being nominated talk less of winning. And I said when black pictures are worth being nominated, they will be on merit. I could say that because I am black. I owe no one an apology; however the whites could not do that based on decades of guilt. So of course, again, up comes the checklist: Do we have a black dominated Oscar winning movie? Check.

Moonlight.....Boring.

A black dominated movie. A black dominated cast with a black director. A story told in three folds, of a young shy boy struggling with his identity. This is not helped by having a crack mom. The teenage years where he flirts with homosexuality and as an adult where he finally acknowledges his sexuality.

Black cast, Check. Gay agenda, Check. Does this satisfy the Oscar nomination? Check.

We have the first black picture to win an Oscar.

America, or Hollywood to be precise in this instant, Stop!
