War Room
I remember back in the days of VHS tapes and no internet, we
relied on word of mouth and what our local video rental store attendant advised
us on. If that failed or was unavailable, we scrolled through the multitudes of
tapes on the video shelves in the rental and tried to make a decision based on
the names.
That said, I can imagine running into a tape titled The War
Room! I would have exclaimed: “An action movie! Finally!”
The beginning of the movie will still lead you on as it
starts with guns blasting, battlefields blazing and numerous war scenes before
the narrator’s voice finally takes over.
In case you have guessed from the above rhetoric, this movie
is not an action movie. It is not even a romantic or a historic drama but a
Christian movie. Yup, a Christian movie but kudos to the producers and
directors, it is not your normal run-of-the-mill Christian movie.
The movie is about a young African American woman struggling
with caring for her young daughter and coping with her argumentative but
successful husband. The marriage was literally heading for the rocks until she
met an old lady who taught her not to fight her husband but fight for him by
going to the Lord in prayers.
The scriptwriter incorporated the spiritual aspect of the
movie in such a subtle manner that non-Christians are fully engrossed before
they realize it’s a Christian movie and
they are rooting for the family so much that even after the realization, they
would still continue watching.
The movie was also a sleeper hit and still continues to
gather both secular and non-secular fans.
A colleague Tope told me it's from the Producer of "Fire Proof". I doubt if I would have watched it if I knew what the film was all about. Glad I didn't know as it turned out to be a totally engrossing movie
