Revenant
I have to admit the only reason I watched this movie was
because it finally got Leonardo DiCaprio the Oscar he deserves but at the same
time, it spoilt my viewing pleasure.
How? You might ask.
Well I spent the whole movie analyzing and watching every
speck of emotion on Leonardo’s face.
Was it the directing? Was it the theme of the movie? The
director did seem to spend a lot of time focusing on Leonardo’s face. Was this
deliberate? At the shooting of the movie, did the director say to Leonardo, right,
let’s go and get you that Oscar? Was it simply because the director knew that
Leonardo was that good and hence concentrated on the facial expressions? Was it the story line? And that’s something
you have to say for Leonardo, down the years, he has always been able to get
good movies to act in, some story lines that would just blow your mind.
Inception, anyone? What of Shutter Island?
Lest I forget, (movie theme) the movie was set in the 1800s
in America, and Leonardo led a hunting expedition that was ambushed by red
Indians but managed to escape with some of the hunting party. With the red
Indians on their trail, Leonardo led the party through the forest but while scouting
ahead was mauled by a Grizzly Bear. Almost half dead, the party had to leave
him behind with his son and two others to watch over him.
I am trying to summarize this as much as possible.
Continuing:
One of the two left to watch him, killed his son and lied to
the other that the Indians were coming and left Leonardo to die. What follows
was an incredible display of will to live and to avenge his son, as he continued
to surprise us all by surviving each death attempt while chasing the killer of
his son played by Tom Hardy.
There. I hope I did a good job of summarizing without
revealing too many spoilers.
Back to my earlier rhetoric, at the end of the movie, I
could not say why he was given an Oscar for this and yet was not given for any of
the other incredible movies he’s acted in over the years.
My name is Oluwole Murray Bruce and I’m just trying to make
common sense.
"I hope I did a good job of summarizing without revealing too many spoilers." I doubt it's possible to do both.
