Pitch Perfect 2

We are back, pitches!!!!!

Excuse the bad pun, but Pitch Perfect 1 is one of my all-time favorites. The  musical comedy about a University acapella group hit all the right notes. I was so excited to hear that there was a sequel & my expectations were high.

The movie starts with the protagonists performing for the president of the United States of America, none other than President Barack Obama himself. The performance was going on fine with the usual brilliant rendition of acapella when Rebel Wilson made an appearance singing Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus by hanging from the ceiling and that’s where it all went wrong. The show ended up with her hanging upside down with all her privates made open for the president and the whole world to see.

Barden Bellas (the protagonists) were now banned from all things acapella: events, auditions, competitions- name it -as a result.

The panel that banned the girls however agreed to reinstate the Barden Bellas if they somehow manage to win the world championships, something that no other American group has been able to do.

There! At that moment, you know how the movie will end. So why watch it?  All the factors that made its predecessor a big hit were played out with an extra note.

Hailee Seinfeld joins the cast as Emily Junk. She brings the x factor.

Anna Kendrick wants to prepare for life after college. She joins a production outfit secretly and has a different agenda from the rest of the gang and this ultimately leads to a fight. The Bellas then decide on no more fighting and the need to get back their mojo. They go on a retreat with former Bella, Anna Camp (Miss Uptight).

The “feel good” moment for me was when all the Barden Bellas from earlier generations to the present ones all showed up at a performance. What they did? And did they win the tournament? Your guess is as good as mine.

Pitch perfect sparked my curiosity. Can acapella groups be this good or the film productions did the rest? Thank God for YouTube. I discovered the NBC’s Sing-off, a competition for acapella groups. Wonderful talents abound.

Watch out for pitch perfect three in the year 2017.

  1. I've seen d film & skipped it until I read ur review & it actually is worthwhile @ least for anybody who appreciated good music. Dere isn't much in d storyline but d music is good, although I sometimes can't make up my mind if d beat is all made by mouth or drums (which shdnt b in an acapella performance). Not bad. D beauty of dis ur blog is dat some1 can watch it 1st & tell me if it's worthwhile or time wasting
