Creed
My Friend, Bariyu Yesufu asks me, “Have u seen Creed?”
“No”, I reply. “Why do u ask?”
“It’s nice; you know I love boxing movies.”
“Eh, have u seen Raging Bull then?”
“No.”
“Cinderella Man?”
“No.”
“Southpaw?”
“No, em actually, I’ve only really seen only the Rocky
series.”
“*SMH*”
The above conversation led to my watching Creed.
Creed is the remake of Rocky with Michael B. Jordan playing Stallone’s role
while Stallone played the role of his trainer.
Everything that made the 1976’S Rocky a hit was in this as well and I have to say I
enjoyed it tremendously. I even felt a touch of nostalgia. Watching Stallone
acting the old boxing star almost made me feel as if I was watching a real life
story and that this is what happens to the action star when the curtains go down.
Rocky has lost his wife and his children don’t even visit.
After all the action he went through in all the Rocky movies, It should end
well right? Haba! But well, that’s life.
One quote that stuck with me and I hope to use it in life
was when Stallone told Johnson to stare at the mirror and watch how when he
moves, his reflection moves. And that
his only real opponent in life is himself. Once he tells himself that nothing
will stand in his way, and then nothing will.
…So, I added “jara”. The
actual words were “You
see this guy here? That's the toughest opponent you're ever going to have to
face. I believe that's true in the ring, and I think that's true in life. Now
show me something.”
Lovely movie. Watch it.

ReplyDeleteLovely movie. And I've now watched Southpaw.
ReplyDelete@bari,about time.
ReplyDeleteNice movie although a bit unrealistic. He didn't really have any known amateur career and in his 2nd fight he started beating world rank contenders. Wait a minute, he might be Anthony Joshua in disguise. By the time I watched it, I've already heard a lot about the film and as an avid boxing follower, the films tend not to live up to expectations. But a lot better than Rocky 5
