Independence day
A sign of a good movie
is when you’ve watched the movie ten years ago and then you watch it again and
it’s still a d**n good movie.
The cast was stellar and
the directing top notch.
I think this was Will
Smith’s break out movie and Will always reminds me of Nigeria’s Dbanj. The Nigerian
star mannerism will always remind me of Will Smith especially the Fresh Prince
of Bel Air's Will Smith. This also reminds me of a good friend of mine Gbolahan
Balogun . Vivica Fox (while she was still hot) plays Will Smith’s romantic
interest. Bill Pullman plays the American
president and he rocked. Jeff Goldblum is also in it and I have to say this:
Jeff is tall; He made Will Smith look like a dwarf.
Enough about the cast.
Independence Day is
about Aliens attacking planet Earth at about around July 4th, America's
Independence Day. You have to give it to the Americans, they made a movie about
aliens attacking the whole world and made it all about America and yes once
again the Americans saved the day.
Anyways I'm getting
ahead of myself.
The movie centers on a
couple of individuals and how the alien attacks brought them all together.
Notably among them are the American president, a jet fighter pilot played by
Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum, a
scientist whose divorced wife works with the President.
Oh, I forgot, and my
favorite character was a drunk crop duster pilot who claimed he was abducted by
aliens when he was young. He was the butt of the town's jokes and a shame to
his children. The alien attack vindicated him. And during the last battle, he
was shown crashing his plane against the aliens' spaceship shouting: “Helloo
boys, I’m backkkkkk!” I found that scene marked indelibly in my memory.
The special effects and
photography were exceptional. The angle from which the shot of the spaceship
covering the city of New York and others was taken, was outstanding.
The movie plot was
simple but brilliant. I liked the way the popular Area 51 was incorporated and
it was discovered that aliens had visited the earth before and were held
secretly in that facility. Just the way the UFO rumor mongers had been
advocating all these years. There was a scene where the president declared amazement
and anger at being kept in the dark about the facility and the CIA director
replied ," possible deniability".
The sequel is coming out
this year. Independence Day Resurgence.
