The Ridiculous 6
I love Adam Sandler.
He gets a lot of stick, I know but what can I say. I find
him funny and so immediately I heard he was starring in a western, I knew I had
to watch it.
It also looks like Westerns are making a comeback. Tarantino
had Django and now Hateful Eight. Initially I thought ridiculous 6 was a spoof
of Hateful Eight.
Despite the stick Sandler gets, this movie had a lot of
heavyweights in it. Nick Nolte , Harvey Keitel, Luke Wilson, etc.
He also had along his usual crew in terms of people like Rob
Schneider, David Spade, etc.
Sandler plays the part of young man raised by red Indians.
Nick Nolte as his long lost father shows up to reconcile with him and to tell
him that he was dying but wants to give fifty thousand dollars to him before he
dies. Nolte’s old gang member show up and kidnap him and Sandler had to raise
fifty thousand dollars to get his Dad free.
Sandler had to leave his clan to raise the money and along
the way encountered five other fellas who turned out to also be Nolte’s
children by different mothers. Nolte had been planting his wild oats and
Sandler had five half-brothers.
They all embarked on a series of robberies to raise the
money and got the name ‘’the ridiculous six ‘’ and a bounty on their heads.
There were a couple of ridiculous scenes and considering the
name of the movie, I guess that’s expected but there were also some genuine
funny ones. Terry Crews confessing to his half-brothers that he was black was
really funny to me. Also some little jaunt with history was accomplished with
Luke Wilson revealing he was Abraham Lincoln‘s bodyguard on the night he was
shot. Also, Mark Twain and Wyatt Earp making an appearance at a poker game with
Mark Twain giving an impromptu rap.
All in all, A typical Sandler’s movie with the usual happy
ending.
And hey, Vanilla Ice made an appearance in the movie, try
and guess who he was in the movie.
