A Dolphin's tale

I actually thought it was an animated movie.

It turned out to be a non-animated family- themed movie.

It was the type of  movie that would make you go, “Oyinbo sha!”

What I liked most about the movie was that it was based on a real life story. At the end of movie, movie clips of the real protagonists are shown.

A young boy missing his father virtually had no interest in anything in life anymore apart from his computer. The only person able to drag him out of the house was his older cousin who was a star swimmer who he looked up to.

Matters got worse when his cousin left for the Army.

This all changed when he ran into a trapped dolphin that was washed ashore, and called emergency services who responded with a dolphin rescue team.

This started his journey with the dolphin rescue team as he became intrigued with them and more especially so when it became apparent that the rescued dolphin and he shared a special connection.

The interaction with the rescue team which included a young girl his age,  her father, and grandfather and other helpers and of course the rescued dolphin gradually brought him out of his shell.

The father of the young girl was divorced and his own mother being single, we can see the sparks flying, right?

Anyway, the movie is not about them but the rescued dolphin named Winter and the young boy, Sawyer.

The dolphin’s tail had to be amputated after being infected by the trap and had to start swimming sideways to compensate.

This motion was now discovered to be causing damage to its spine and would eventually lead to its death.

At the same time, Sawyer’s cousin returned from the war with an amputated leg. He was depressed and was basically at the same place more or less that Sawyer was before he met the dolphin.
Sawyer spoke to his cousin about the prosthetic leg being developed for him and spoke to the doctor responsible about the possibility of building one for Winter the dolphin.

What follows was the triumph of human spirit and endeavor with scientific knowledge as the struggle to build an acceptable tail for Winter commenced and at the same time how the tale of Winter inspired Sawyer’s cousin and other disabled people to see the brighter side of life.
