The Intern
Robert DeNiro and Anna Hathaway lit this movie up with warm
beautiful colors.
Robert has been acting now for the best part of four decades
and he brought it on. DeNiro showcased why he is among the greats of
Hollywood. He is a true Godfather.
I remember hearing this some years back, DeNiro giving Jay
Z a tongue lashing and telling him "you don’t treat people that way", and Jay Z sulking while BeyoncĂ© apologized for his behavior.
I don’t know how true that gist was but it sounded like
something only De Niro could pull off. I can picture it now, with him using his
Italian accent.
Anna Hathaway is an epitome of what I call innocent beauty.
She appears so childlike and beautiful, you will want to cuddle and kiss her at
the same time. She reminds me of my wife.
I have always been so engrossed by her beauty that I never
noticed her flaws. This movie was the first time that I noticed she had ‘K’
legs.
De Niro plays the role of a retiree who had just lost his
wife and could not figure out what he wanted to do for the rest of his life until
he noticed an advert for elderly interns in a fast growing company.
Hathaway plays the role of the owner of the company. Young,
innovative, likes to do things her own way. She rides a bicycle in the
corridors of her company. She prefers everyone adopts a semi-formal attitude to
work.
She’s a workaholic and her husband plays the role of the
wife to allow her concentrate on her company while he raises their only daughter.
The intake of elderly interns was a pet project of her
partner that she didn’t support but had to go along with to avoid lawsuits and
for good PR.
DeNiro was assigned to her but as much she tried to ignore
him,DeNiro slowly became indispensable to her and helped her through some
pretty rough moments.
DeNiro not only became indispensable to her but the whole
company as he slowly became the engine oil that made the whole place run
smoothly.
The younger interns soon started to dress like him and he
got himself some romantic attention in form of Rene Russo who was the in-house
masseur.
Just imagine a company where during lunch break ,you could
go for an in house massage .In fact, there was this scene where Russo was
massaging DeNiro on his seat and he had an erotic response.
The younger interns sitting next to him noticed and
immediately passed a newspaper to him to cover the area of mischief.
After Russo left, DeNiro and the younger interns had fist
bumps showing the boyhood camaraderie always exists no matter the age difference.
The movie explores relationships between working mothers and
sit-at-home dads, which is a situation we have started to face at home in Nigeria.
Although, here it’s mostly the case of women earning more than their husbands.
The movie is warm, funny and has the feel good factor.
