Spectre
I write about Spectre with mixed feelings. Why? Because
there was a return to the basics and this made the story line way too familiar
but at the same time gave the touch of nostalgia that made it worth my while.
The movie starts off in Mexico and Bond appears as usual
with a lady in tow. Both are covered with
face masks as they stroll through a Death themed carnival. They stop at a hotel
room and the lady starts to relax on the bed at which Bond goes out through the
window after telling the lady he will be back.
Bond proceeds via gang walks and balconies while cocking a
sub machine gun. All this in broad
daylight and walking -in fact almost bouncing -like a black man. You could
almost hear the ladies in the cinema hall go –‘’Ooh!’’.
He then proceeds to blow up an apartment building and kill a
notorious assassin.
This was the pre-credits action scene. Not bad.
Bond appears back in London and reports to M.
M is now Ralph Fiennes after Judi Dench’s M was murdered in
Skyfall. I can’t help it but remember Lord Voldemort of the Harry Potter series
and as such suspect him of eventual foul play. Also Moneypenny is now a black lady;
I guess the rumors about James Bond to be played eventually by a black dude
might be true. Idris Elba is the name being bandied about.
M tells Bond to sit put in London as the fiasco he created
in Mexico did not help the department as the department might be shut down for
being too old fashioned. Sounds familiar? AKA as Mission impossible 6: Rogue Nation.
Familiar themes continue as scenes like
the train fight with WWE bad boy David Batista attest to. Another was the Bond
and girl being accepted as guests by the villain complete with a chauffeur
driven car and guest rooms with their pictures on the wall.
Every single detail noted and of course a familiar villain
–Blofeld complete with the white cat, only there was no scene shot with Blofeld
seated with the white cat in his lap.
Dialogue was fun . An example was Craig pointing a gun at a
mouse and interrogating him.
Craig delivered the action star, the James Bond way. Always
immaculate in a tuxedo.
The gentleman action star licensed to kill.
