Fantastic Four 2015
The first thought that occurred to me when I heard that
Fantastic Four was being made again was this: Chris Evans. The 2005 version had
Chris Evans as the Human Torch and having him again as Captain America provides
some conflict in the Marvel world or so I thought.
A reboot is meant to be better than the original or at least
that is the idea and so it was a complete disappointment to me. Fantastic Four
2015 was just poor in every regard. The critics condemned the movie while it
bombed in the box office but I’ve learnt not to always follow the bandwagon and
I looked forward to watching the 2015 version.
The box office and the critics were right.
The plot for the movie concentrated on how the Fantastic Four
got their powers. The movie concentrated on this and spent more time on the
dimension where the powers were obtained than in the earlier movies. Character
development was also poor as depicted by Michael B. Jordan’s portrayal of the Human
Torch compared to Chris Evans’s. Human Torch is reckless, enthusiastic
and has a devil -may -care attitude. Jordan played that role with some restraint
visible to the audience. The chemistry between Richard Reeds and The Thing was
also underplayed. The anguish felt by The Thing and the constant guilt felt by
Reeds and his desire to cure The Thing was not just captured as it was done
with the previous movies. Initially, it was attempted. The director then decided to throw that complex relationship out of the movie, and just like that,
it was over and done with, without even a simple explanation as shown at the
end where Miles Teller (Reeds) coined the name Fantastic Four for the group.
The special effects were horrible, for this time and age. Johnny
Storm looked like a cartoon character when flying or talking in ‘flame “mode. The
Thing was horrible and do not be fooled by the movie poster that showed him
‘hulking’ up behind the other three .In the movie, he looked smaller and looked
like a walking doll.
There is meant to be a sequel in 2017, I hope they realize
their mistakes and make a better movie or better still shelve the idea.
