Diamonds in the sky

I am a big fan of Kunle Afolayan. All I needed to know was the movie was directed by Kunle, then I mentally set a note that the movie is a must-watch. Kunle first inspired me with Aromire, a movie well ahead of its peers at the time and got me hook, line and sinker with October 1st. If you are a big Nollywood fan and you haven't seen the aforementioned movies, please do.

"Diamonds in the sky" was on the top ten trending on Netflix and that was what prompted my watching the movie. Imagine my pleasant surprise when I discovered it was a Kunle Afolayan movie.

The movie centered around three families, each groping with both the mental, emotional, societal and economic complexities that come with the disease cancer.

The movie took its time in setting its tone. An impatient watcher would have changed the movie but once the tone was set the directing was both captivating and motivational.

I have observed lately that our director is a bit of a societal crusader and always has a point or lesson to prove in his movies. In this movie, it was an awareness to the menace called cancer and how to fight it.

Also prominent in the movie was the not too subtle branding of the Leah screening center in Ilorin, Kwara State but considering it is a non governmental organisation towards the treatment of cancer deserves special accolades on the entire movie crew.

And in conclusion, we hope many will observe the lessons being taught in the movie that cancer is not a death sentence if detected on time.

Kudos Kunle.
